I don't think I've ever heard of a nightmare about a mouth sore.
But plenty of English teachers abound.
This one had both. Yes, over the course of my dream, I had a terrible mouth sore on the inside of my lip that made it slightly painful to talk. I really don't know where I was, but there was this large and steep metal staircase. Think a ladder with some tilt to it. At the top was...some courtyard or something. A restaurant. Friends were there, so I was shuttling back and forth on this horrifying staircase dozens of stories in the air. Oh, right. My 10th grade English teacher was at the top, too. At some point, I began to explain a story to a friend, pausing once to say, "...either-- or is it 'neither'...ah. anyway..." Dr. Smith decided to chime in. "Well, which one is</it>?" "I don't remember. Anyway, as I was saying..." "Don't you rememberthese things?"
It was at this time that I made the hilariously boneheaded move of waddling over to the stairs and mumbling "I'll tell you later" in a a David Byrne-esque style. I proceeded down the stairs quickly; they were horrifyingly steep!
My heart stopped in fear: the words "Time for a grammar lesson!" echoed down to me. A good third of the stairs were missing! instead was a thin service ladder placed adjacent. I swatted desperately with one hand to no avail.
And woke up with my head between a pillow and the wall.
Comically classic, eh? The part that I don't understand was that I loved Dr. Smith and grammar was not something I ever feared. Now, college-style research papers...not so much. |

I opened up a glasses case I found deep in a closet and found a pair of spiffy black horn-rimmed glasses that I don't recall owning. (I've worn rimless and tortoiseshell glasses most of my life) They had absolutely no effect on my vision.
Which leads me to question the point of plano lenses and why someone would buy them.
I guess now when Leigh asks me to wear glasses and I'm wearing contacts, I can. heh. |

I tried making a soy mocha cappuccino. Recipe I used as follows: 1 shot espresso, ristretto (Tully's Bold roast) 4oz steamed/frothed Silk chocolate soymilk topped with cinnamon to taste.
The espresso came out good. really good. the soymilk flew everywhere.
I can only think of two baristas that can foam soymilk as well as dairy (as opposed to when I go to Starbucks and the foam comes out like shampoo). I NEED TO KNOW THE SECRET!
On top of that, the cocoa burned so it stank up the place.
The fun part of brewing your own coffee is trying different things out. I think I've got a decent handle on a straight shot of espresso. Now let's see if I can get down a cappuccino or even something called a Cubano (espresso poured into a cup with a little bit of sugar)
The term 'espresso' implies speed, and that's certainly true (it takes about...30 seconds for a single shot) when it comes to the actual brewing, but there's a lot more that goes into getting the coffee ready and cleaning up, especially when making more than two shots on a steam machine.
( the fun stuff ) |

Everyone enjoying Thanksgiving! Contrary to popular speculation, my vegan Thanksgiving was wonderful. Whoo!
I watched "A Christmas Story" again. Great movie!
Not sure why, but that reminded me of Almost Live!, a comedy show on KING-TV a while back whose cast included Bill Nye and Pat Cashman.
If you didn't already know, Ballard is the Scandinavian district of Seattle. (and I am half-Norwegian and buy my shoes in Ballard.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGlDVmBLibg here's another one with Officer Bill Nye. (I also failed to mention the large amounts of old people in Ballard.) |

| Trespassing |
[Apr. 23rd, 2007|06:31 pm] |
Ran with T-Max, Li'l Max, RJ and Nick today at Ft. Lewis again. We saw the "DANGER NO TRESPASSING" and "DANGER SMALL ARMS IMPACT ZONE" signs again, but we still ran. Instead, we missed the yellow sign.
Ran down some double-track and passed a clearing wile we talked loudly about who knows what when T-Max yells "OH SHI--"
Click. Click. We stop dead.
To our left, hidden in plain sight, are 5 men frozen stiff. I was looking down the barrels of five M16s held by angry-faced soldiers. Silence. We backed away slowly and continued on our way...
The yellow sign at the trailhead said "WARNING TRAINING MOVEMENTS IN PROGRESS".
yesterday..what'd I do... I walked entirely across the city. In the process of widening the SR-16 freeway, the city built the Pierson Trail, a wide concrete path running alongside the elevated roadway from S. Union Ave, past Cheney Stadium and the Ave (6th Ave., that is) through War Memorial Park, and across the existing Narrows Bridge. An interesting walk, to say the least. On my way back, I didn't walk along the freeway but cut through the Skyline district. in a parking lot on the Ave, some band called Six Ounce Glove or something was playing...loudly. VERY loudly. Part of some customer appreciation for a store.
You have to remember I got in at 1:30AM that morning, woke at 5AM, then slept until noon. So that's quite a feat for me. |

[Jul. 16th, 2006|08:35 am] |
So last week I was working in the back room and this lady comes up to me. "Hii! I Michelle from Mongolia." "...Hi?" "I talk to you. I ask question." "uh, wha?" "I have question for yoouuu.." "er, if it is about merchandise or fittings, talk to Jim, the other guy with glasses.." "No, I ask you!" "say wa?" "No, I ask you!" "come again..?" "I ask you!" (hands me this card that says she is a missionary from Mongolia and needs $35) "Well, I dont have any money..." "I ask you!" "I am sorry..." "But I ask you!" "well..I have $5..." (hands it to her) "Bless you sir!" I heard her do the same thing to some other customers, and walked out onto the sales floor and watched her go up to Jim. "OUT." "But I ask you!" "You do not have MY permission to solicit donations in MY store." "but--" "OUT NOW."
I went to go get sandwiches for everybody at Round Table. The guy there asked me if we got some crazy lady from mongolia in our store. And then later that day, Mr. Matson and Robert rode in, and they mentioned that some "weird girl" came up to them at the coffeehouse asking for money. That lady scared me.
So today is my day off. Whoo. I don't want to do homework and I want to drop newsmagazine next year because I just don't have the time anymore. So instead I am going to go to Performance Bike or REI and buy a pair of bicycle shorts. Why not at Spoke and Sprocket? Because they seem to not have a pair of decent shorts for under $130. And Performance is having a sale on Pearl Izumi clothing.
I also want to get a wool jersey. Yes, in the middle of summer. Jim says that wool is a much better summer jersey than technical synthetic jerseys and last a whole lot longer. lj-cut text="So what I want for bicycling this summer:"> -a pair of Axley Team Oberto (whoo, thats my team) edition Raptor glasses -a new Team Oberto jersey (skinsuits are nice because they have attatched shorts, but trust me, for traning rides, people look at you funny for wearing a skin tight one piece jersey. It's not that I don't look good. it just is weird.) -A black Cinzano wool jersey or a white and red Faema jersey. both teams Eddy Merckx raced for in the 60s and 70s. While there is nothing wrong with a jersey advertising coffee machines (my friend has a Saeco jersey), people who know me might be wondering why I would wear a shirt with a beer company logo on it. -A Sigma cyclocomputer. I am too lazy to take the one off my old bicycle. -either Descente or Pearl Izumi cycling shorts. I only have one pair and I have 3-4 jersey tops. or if we still had any, some Parantini-made Spoke and Sprocket shorts. those were the most comfortable things ever.
And speaking of which, anyone want a sleeveless Pearl Izumi jersey? it's bright yellow and I don't really like it. so now I be off to look at cool new apartments. My personal favorites were the ones on 6th and Jackson..I forget what they were called.
oh, and if you haven't done so already, check out my dA ( http://takkunmonsoon.deviantart.com ) or buy something at my online store ( http://cafepress.com/takkunmonsoon ) !! |

[Jun. 15th, 2006|09:29 pm] |
The light in my room is out. So I type this by light of my LCD screen.
I had a strange dream the other day. The government was planning to detonate a nuclear missle on Yakima avenue, dead center of the city. So they would obliterate Tacoma but none of the suburbs. And everyone was getting out, obviously, so the multitudes of freeways were clogged (interestingly, SR16 had traffic coming INTO the bridge and cars were driving up and down the suspension wires of the unfinished south bridge) and I lived on Pearl street over by Igor's apartment. So I packed my entire life's work of photography (my ibook, several DVDs and thousands of negatives) into a backpack along with my D1x. And then I got on my bicycle and rode south towards where I live currently. and it was really hot out, smoggy, and as I said, lots of traffic. And 200,000 people were all leaving because the government decided to blow the second most populous city in the state off the map. I felt sorta betrayed. And confused, as to why they were doing it. Air raid and lahar sirens were going off and it was really sad. But it was worse that nobody questioned why the city was being destroyed. They just saw it as a good reason to move to the suburbs and just watch things blow up. I don't know where I was going; I think it was University Place or something. Weirder still: none of the suburbs would be affected by fallout, as if it would stop at city limits. I think I am going to write something on this. Think I should?
I went to the velodrome today. Very cool. Saw everyone again. People I usually race with: Perry: a dentist from West Seattle in his 50s. Has a custom built track bike. Really nice guy and not snobby for a doctor. Jane: a computer programmer at MSN from Capitol Hill (seattle). She has been laid off from Microsoft multiple times, has switched to mac and just got hired back. She likes the job, though like many lives in the city and works in the suburbs (like me.) She is on the ByrneSpecialtyGases team with.. Molly: Also from Seattle, grew up in my neighborhood. She, like me and Mr. Matson, lost a lot of weight taking up cycling (she was 300lbs and is 120 now). She and Jane race Cyclocross too. Jenny: a bicycle messenger and university student from Belltown (seattle). I think she is a Rat City Rollergirl too. Covered in tattoos but is a very nice person, not the type you would expect. Pete: A contractor from First Hill (Seattle). Likes his big huge Toyota and coffee. Missing a lot of teeth but has a nice bicycle to make up for it. He goes to my cyclocross races but drives miles just to park his truck by the racecourse and drink coffee. Doesn't really like anyone else on my team. John: Heads up the Marymoor Velodrome Association and coaches track cycling. He is a joker. On the KING-5/Wines of Washington team and has a (typical) green Bianchi Pista Concept 2004. ( I have a Concept 2006, but I don't ride it. I ride my Fuji) I think he works at Boeing and lives in Renton. Nolan: My teammate from Redmond. He is 15 and is a mountain biker but is a good guy and talks to me and pete at cyclocross races. We go on rides around east King County sometimes.
Man, the velodrome is my ELEMENT. I feel GREAT and haven't lost my edge. I will probably put some photos I took up on my site. |

you know what? I am MAD. Really mad. 1- My new camera, a canon Elan 7n, still hasnt arrived. 2-My digital camera, the canon Rebel Digital, has been made obsolete. ok, canon has a lineup of some topnotch digital SLRs. The EOS1D series, the 3D series, and the other numbered series. eg, the 30D, 10D. The 30D was the digital version of the Elan 3, and the 10D the equivalent of the elan 7. Well, not long after I got the Rebel, which was their newest and cheapest built digital camera (it has few manual features, but thats okay, it gets the job done.) they come out with the 20D, the digital version of the Elan 7n. except bigger, better, and digital. I want it. But thats not what makes me mad. Canon came out with the Digital Rebel 350XT, which is a much sturdier camera than what I have. better built, and comes in a professional-looking black, not hte crap silver paint on the Rebel series. (exceptions being the Rebel G and the japanese versions of all of htem) http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=11154 yea. I want to get one. but I cant afford it. meh, the Rebel gets stuff done.
And lexy, I miss my Rebel 2000 (my old automatic camera; anyone who knows me knows that I mostly use manual film cameras) and its body shape. it is much more fun to hold than my digital. And worlds more than my manual cameras, which dont even have grips. I will kill UPS if my camera doesnt come monday.
and nobody has any idea what I just said, do they. |

Dearest lexy, Thank you for a good day today, as I was depressed this morning. You made me happy. We shall do something on sunday with luck.
Dear Band (and michael), We are all still cool for tomorrow? When can you all meet? Just so you can give me a general time to be there. And igor, the guitar is no problem? if it is, I could swing by your house and pick it up for ya after school.
But anyway, yea, today was happy day, cuz I got to bike again, and other such stuff. One of which is that B and H finally shipped my camera, I hope it arrives next week.
Everyone be happy cuz I am. Please. |

ok, yesterday was awesome. after my brother's basketball game, he went to my dad's and we picked up igor, he brought his acoustic guitar, and we went to guitar center to mess around, but he ended up buying a Fender Bullet and an amp. I got a bag and tuner and some picks for my bass, and we sat on the curb waiting for my mother. Quote: (guy walks down the street beatboxing) igor: Ian, get your knife.." (guy turns and waves at us, and walks into the store)
Quote 2: (Dr Yorek and blake walk up) (some time later) dr yorek: "dude, that guitar is a babe magnet...bring it to parties!" so we get home and set up the thing outside, and play lotsa songs. One was "Evil" by interpol, I had never heard the song before. we had fun, messing around with stuff, and it was the first time I saw igor really really happy. He loved that guitar. and then his strap popped, and the thing went crashing into the ground. We were able to take it back for a replacement at no charge, and then we stayed inside the rest of the day on the couch playing. and yea, just for the record, I have memorized the basslines for RUSH, Little Busters, and Evil. so yea. (and I am working on Backseat Dog, and someone suggest I try "Something" by the beatles...god, that is a complicated line..) |
